People are fascinated by robots. Movies for many years have explored themes of humanity and artificial intelligence, and at what point those two mix. Perhaps what is so interesting about these films is the question humans have been asking themselves for thousands of years, what makes something human? Or even, What makes someone sentient ? It s an intriguing thought. The movie, I, Robot, asks this question, but it also explores something called the Three Laws , and several moral theories. While perhaps it doesn t answer any of the queries it brings up, the film is at the very least, curious and thought-provoking. The movie I, Robot is set in the vaguely near future where personal robots have been integrated into society. These robots are in most every household, like the smart-phones of today, and they are being designed to look increasingly human. While most people in the movie consider these robots as laptops or iPods – that is, a piece of machinery that could do more harm or betray you than a toaster could – a Detective Spooner regards them with suspicion. Because of an car crash where a robot rescued him instead of a young girl, as the robot calculated Spooner had a greater chance of survival, the Detective distrusts all robots. People nowadays want more than what they need, that is the cause of greediness. People who are greedy have an excessive or rapacious desire, especially for wealth or possessions. People shop for things that are not necessary, more than half the people in Hong Kong are using an iPhone or an iPad, but it is not really necessary to buy an iPhone or iPad; the point of people buying an iPhone or an ipad is just to show people that they can afford an iPhone or an ipad. Greediness is in everyone, but some people are just greedier than others. Rich people tend to get greedier than others, and that explains why they are so rich. Hard work is required obviously but they do not share usually, because they are scared that their wealth will suddenly get stolen. The problem is once people have the money and power, people are going to want more of those, and then those people would want to become richer than the wealthiest. When people get wealthier, some of them start belittling the people who they think are worth less than them. When in fact, everyone should be equal it does not matter if people are rich or poor. People crave for money; it is okay to crave for money just as long as people do not turn greedy. Because all of that hard work will disappear once that person gets buried. Once a person gets what they want then that person will want more again, it is like a cycle. They want to have more than what other people have, and it ends up as a competition of who’s the richest. When all that money spent on useless items can be donated to charities with much more necessities. Money can buy happiness in so many ways; like riding a first class in the plane or going on vacation with the whole family while staying in a five star hotel. In some cases though, money can only buy happiness in a short period of time. When people loose the person they love, they cannot buy that persons life. What people can do in order to forget is to use a little bit of money to have fun, like maybe buying a pint of ice cream or a box of chocolate’s might cheer a person up. Money also cannot buy love, a lot of people now are treating love as if it is a game, and all they are targeting is the money; so people should not get tricked by the ones who they think really loves them because people might also use wealthier people for the money they have. Frank Sinatra Essay The Life and Times ofFrank SinatraBy Esme HawesChelsea House Publishers Philadelphia?1998 Francis Albert Sinatra was born on December 12, 1915, in Hoboken, New Jersey. He later became known as Frank Sinatra and one of the greatest entertainers of his time. American singers, Bing Crosby and Billie Holiday, influenced Frank. Sinatra then developed a vocal phrasing in his music that influenced generations of popular vocalists. Sinatra anticipated the decline of big-band instrumental jazz music, and helped establish an enthusiastic climate for popular singers. One of the songs Frank Sinatra is most known for singing is the hit â€Å"My Way†, which my grandfathers favorite song. When I hear the song it reminds me of him and sometimes brings a tear to my eye. Frank Sinatra’s career began after he signed his first performing contract, when he was 24. He got his start singing with Tommy Dorsey’s band in the 1930’s. He then scored his first number one song a little more than a year later, â€Å"I’ll Never Smile Again†. Sinatra’s worked as a radio singer during World War II making only $15 a week, but it did gain him a lot of popularity. While working there, he wed Nancy Barbato on February 4, 1939. He soon left Dorsey’s band for a solo career that lead him to several hits and great success in the 50’s and 60’s. Young At Heart, All the Way, Witchcraft, Strangers in the Night, and that’s Life were some of his hit songs. In the 1940s Sinatra started on a career by himself and became the idol of the â€Å"bobby-soxers†. Which were teenage girls who yelled out, â€Å"Ohh Frankie!!† and passed out because of his soft-voiced singing. During this time he also did som e film musicals such as, Anchors Aweigh in 1945, Till the Clouds Roll By in 1947, and On the Town in 1949. In the 50s, Sinatra was also one of the first to approach albums as full works or art, instead of collections of singles. His songs still remain to have the distinctive style when he performed them. Also during the 50’s, his movie career also took off. In 1953 he won an Academy Award for his performance in From Here to Eternity, and he didn’t even sing. He also won an Oscar award for Best Supporting Actor for the 1953 movie From Here to Eternity. He also appeared in classic films such as, Guys and Dolls, High Society, Manchurian Candidate and Oceans 11, which put him with the other members of the Rat Pack, which included Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford. In the 60’s, Sinatra recorded with the big bands of American jazz musicians Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Frank Sinatra was a soulful crooner that established himself as he branched out into films. After leaving Capitol Records in 1961, Sinatra became one of the first to wear the artist-mogul hat when he founded Reprise Records. Sinatra enjoyed his most recent chart success in 1993 with the album Frank Sinatra Duets, which debuted on the album charts at number two and featured performances by Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross and Bono. Other contributors to the album included Barbara Streisand, and Julio Iglesias. The album sequel Duets II 1994 won Sinatra his ninth Grammy Award in 1996. Duets II included collaborations with country-and-western star Willie Nelson, jazz singer Lena Horne, and popular singer and songwriter Neil Diamond. Frank Sinatra, the legendary leader of the Rat Pack and arguably the greatest entertainer of this century, died of a heart attack Thursday night, May 14, 1998, in Los Angeles at the age of 82. Sinatra spent almost 50 great years in show business, which he evolved from pop musics first teen idol to a respected vocal stylist to an Academy Award-winning actor. Despite his many accomplishments, Sinatra may be best remembered not for what he did, but for how he did it.
